How to Care for Your Pearls

Here at Herself, we are known for our pearls.

Today we are here to tell you all about how to keep them looking shiny and bright.

Things Pearls Love:

  1. Lots of Attention - You may think that keeping your pearls locked away in a box keeps them new and fresh, but actually, pearls prefer to be worn! Since pearls are a soft stone, they are sensitive to their environment, and sitting in a box for too long can dry them out. But when they are worn, they slowly absorb the natural oils present in your skin, helping them to stay moisturized and luminous.
  2. The Natural Trend - Since pearls are able to absorb oils, they are also able to absorb less ideal things like chemicals, which can damage the structure of the pearl. It is best practice to put your makeup, perfumes, lotions, etc on before you add the finishing touch - your pearls.
  3. To Leave Home and Never Look Back - ironically, even though pearls came from the water, they don't do well with going back into the water. The soft nature of pearls makes them easily damaged by water (especially salt water). So slip your pearls off before that shower, bath or jump into the salty ocean.
  4. Rest Days - Pearls are not gym girlies and they don't like sweat. The chemicals in sweat can damage the surface of the pearl, so they do best on the night out (not the workout).
